In Good Condition
This is the Tuning Unit (RA) of a Westinghouse RADA Regenerative Radio Receiver from 1922. This was originally sold as a stand alone unit that could be connected to a Westinghouse DA (Detector Amplifier) unit to form a complete radio capable of driving a speaker. Later both units were sold together in one cabinet called a RADA, or RC unit.
This tuner features a heavy duty Bakelite panel and an even heavier Bakelite sub panel or chassis mounted behind it. Although sold originally for commercial use, the heavy duty construction on this looks military. The main tuning coil is a variometer with its rotor shaft connected also to the main tuning condenser. As the tuning knob is turned, the variometer rotor and the tuning condenser both turn. A smaller condenser is provided for fine tuning. A thirty position tap switch sets the tickler coupling to adjust regeneration.
Size is approx 7"W x 10"H x 10"D
This tuning panel has been sitting for years and has gathered a lot of dust. It needs a good cleaning. There are no cracks or chips in the Bakelite panels. There is no rust or corrosion on the metal parts. The knobs are good but may need cleaned. The photos describe the cosmetics of the knobs and manufacturers label better than I can. There are no threaded nuts on the end of the long connection rods. (see photos)
This can be used to replace the damaged panel in your RADA radio set or with a little experimentation this can be used as the front end of a very sexy crystal radio set. It displays very well.
I make every attempt to describe items completely and accurately, and to show any flaws clearly in the photographs. Questions are invited and will be answered promptly.
