This listing is for an authentic vintage sample of wire fencing. This wire features an Edward V. Wilkes patent, dated June 17, 1879. This wire is called \"Wilkes\' Square Knot Barb on Single Line\" by collectors. (ref. Hagemeier 171-B). This wire features a single heavy gauge round line wire. Barbs are four pointed made fromtwo lighter weight round barbing wires. Barbing wires are bent into staple shapes, set on opposite sides of the line wire, and points laced through the closed end on oppposing staple. These are pressed to line wire, and points bent outwards to lock barb in place. Wiresample is a minimum of 18\" in length. Wire shows age and use wear with moderate pitting.There are three barbs, well spaced, and cut iswell centered. There is some bending of points, but no broken or missing points.Wire is in good used condition.
