Vintage WW2 era MARBLE\'S 6\" blade IDEAL model with the war-time wide hilt and a more pronounced clipped point tip; proudly made circa 1940-1945 in Gladstone, Michigan, USA. Marble\'s Knives was one of the best US makers of hunting knives, axes and other outdoors gear since 1898.

Marble\'s high quality hunting knives were always popular in the States. With the onset of WW2 Marble\'s had quickly adapted to the new market and begun manufacturing a \"militarized\" Ideal model in various blade sizes that were better-suited for the needs of the American servicemen. This type is illustrated on page 180 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W. Silvey - a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the page\'s photo attached). The demand for the much-needed fighting knives early in the war was high; many GI\'s privately purchased Marble\'s knives and carried them through every major WW2 theater. The legendary Torpedo Squadron 8 Lt. Commander John Charles Waldron (aka The Skipper; the hero of the the Battle of Midway) had worn an identical type to his combat missions. See the photo of Lt. Original Marble\'s war time leather sheath is in good condition, considering the age and conditions in the field; small cut at the throat; keeper is intact. Original owner\'s name and military ID # are penned the front, but the letters are barely visible. I can only make out IKE FOBE... and the first three numbers of the ID: 671... Overall, this interesting WW2 era knife is in 100% serviceable condition even now; with proper care it will last you another 80 years ;)
