WW2 German Wehrmacht - POLICE OFFICER SWORD - EICKHORN - Vet Bring-Back - NICE:
$615.05

You are offerding on a VERY NICE used example of a 100% original WW2 German Polizei (Police) Officer Sabre! Brought back by a US veteran, this type was issued to all officer\'s who served in the Police/Fire Brigades. I will provide the name of the veteran who acquired it to the winning buyer.

Officer’s and NCO personnel’s swords were manufactured with minor variations depending on the branch of service and the individual’s rank.It is believed that the manufacture and bestowal of the police swords was discontinued, along with SS swords, by regulations on June 26TH 1942, and further wearing of the swords was prohibited in August 1943, except for ceremonial occasions, to be reinstated at the successful conclusion of the war. Regulations of 1944 stated that the much more practical, loaded pistol be worn in place of a blade sidearm.

.

Made of nickel-plated steel and ebony, this Police-issue Officer Sabre / Degen is in EXCELLENT used condition! There are some slight marks, wear, and corrosion, as you can see in the photos, however it is still quite solid and retains most of it\'s original finish. Clearly marked (though a bit faint)by Carl Eickhorn, it measures approx. 45\" in length and comes with the original scabbard! All logos/emblems are clearly legible. Tip has a bit of a bend on it, but it is not noticeable, and does not detract.Makes for an EXCELLENT wall hanging! Though the Carl Zeiss logo is an earlier variation (pre-1930), and some collectors suggesting that this sword was \"built-up\" post-war, after communicating with Thomas T. Wittmann (noted historian and author of NUMEROUS book on the subject), he confirmed this as being a 100% ORIGINAL piece, and most likely was simply a mistake done in production. I will forward the email communication to the winning buyer.

Being sold as-is, in the condition you see in the sale listing. Would be a PERFECT addition to any collection or simply for display!

Please email me if you need additional photos or information.
