German WWI M 1916 Ersatz Bayonet - Carter EB #38 TypeImperial German WWI ersatz bayonet in very good condition with a full length blade (12-1/2 inches). Solid construction with a fully functioning lock button. Some old green paint on the scabbard. The scabbard has a couple of shallow dents and dings as shown in the photos. The handle has a nice patina with traces of original green paint. The cross guard has an Imperial fraktur proof mark. The frog stud is very interesting as it was marked by a regiment (3.421.) for the third company, weapon 421. Fits nicely on the Gew 88 Commission rifle. The bayonet will also fit on the French Lebel and the Mauser Gew 98. The Germans manufactured a sleeve adapter which allowed most of these ersatz bayonets to be affixed to the captured Mosin-Nagant rifles. A very nice original piece to display with your rifle.
