In my personal collection of Navajo Weavings, I have mostly loved Saddle Blankets. They were almost always woven for relatives to use themselves. They served the practical purpose of keeping the horse and the rider from getting \"saddle sore\" and express the talents and love of the relative that made it. I\'ve got an Irish background and I think the equivalent in many cultures is to wear a hand knitted sweater that was created for you with loving hands. This one is made from colorful and heavy wool. It is very bright and dramatic in the choice of colors. This one is well made, sturdy, and has a very tight weave!
This Double Saddle Blanket is a larger than the typical Double Saddle Blanket, even when it is folded over to double the thickness (and padding) it looks larger. There is no evidence that it has been used on a horse as there is no typical color bleeding or stretching evident. It is most likely form the late 1970\'s or 1980\'s based on the construction, revival Dazzler design, and color palate. I would suggest that this would be an amazing rug on your floor. It is thick and sturdy and should endure longer than I might.

This Weaving was Cleaned and Moth-Proofed by James Stilley at Navajo Rug Repair here in Tucson. The Moth-Proofing is a one-time procedure and it will remain effective until the weaving is cleaned again in the future.
