In circulated grades, the 1918-D is about as rare as most other Denver Mint Buffalos of the 1914-1919 era. In Gem condition, the 1918-D is quite rare, definitely rarer than the D and S Mints of 1913 to 1917, but not as rare as the 1918-S, 1919-D and 1919-S. The strike is usually OK, and luster is often semi-frosty with a beautiful iridescent glow. This is rare coin that occasionally comes very nice.
I love buffalo nickels and the people who sell and collect them. It is a great history piece and a wonderful coin to show my granchillin. I have found some great buffaloes over the years yet when I find that rare buffalo with great luster, sharp detail, and a rust tone I love it. Keep bring them to market you hoarders. HA! HA! I get them all one day. Surenuf. JB2015

Normally Buffalo nickels have been hard to judge the actual details from photos. I have returned a few after receiving them as when in hand they did not pan out better than the ones already in my collection. This is my primary reason for working on upgrading my collections. Afterwards I plan to sell the ones left over. However, the ones in my primary sets should be the best. This coin represented a very nice grade and worked out well.

This Buffalo nickel is a perfect fit to my circulated set. I wish I could find them all with this originality and eye appeal. Easier said than done.
