Most bargain-priced players that are sold now are combination CD / DVD / Blu Ray units that are physically small and lack the front-panel controls and displays found on the older units. I was looking for something to integrate into a system that I was putting together based on a tube power amp that I recently built from a kit, and this was the perfect match (size, display color) for the other pieces. If you purchase a working unit in good condition, it should serve you well for years to come. Check online product reviews for products that were considered good performers when originally sold -- or you could drop big bucks on a high-end new unit that will not sound any different.
It does lack features found on SL-PG300 such as direct track access and headphone volume control. I had a problem with my SL-PG300 optical reader. Since the are the same in the 100 and 300, I took the one out of the 100 and put it in the 300 and now my 300 is working fine. To make it last longer, I modified the power switch to switch the mains before the power transformer vice switching the power after the power supply. This way the transformer is not always on and I am saving energy.
Works great as it should! thanks for a good purchase!!!!!!!

Was happy to find this Technics cd player that was an exact match for the Technics system my wife has had for over 20 years. It works well and has a great sound.
