I have tried the meters you get at the big box stores (soil probes) and they are so far off you just can't compare to the Bluelab Soil pH Probe. But if you don't have the meter it's a big expense! I can't do Hydro because the water gets too hot so I opt for soil and starting out with the right PH is my best shot at a good grow. If you have the meter it's a great asset.
