There are a number of problems with Honeywell Zone Controllers. 1. Honeywell does not support do-it-yourselfers. This means that unless you get s sympathetic tech, they will not even talk to you on the phone. Also, in the event of failure, they will not accept warranty replacement claims from you. If you bought on EBAY, you have NO WARRANTY. 2. After installing the HZ322, the product worked well in my installation for 5 months. Then CATASTROPHE happened. A simple power shut down by the Long Island Power Company, rebooted the controller. Instead of the normal reboot, the controller went into a NEVER-NEVER LAND, situation. Both damper motors were put into closed positions, and the furnace was sent the signal to turn on; the digital temperature sensor was bypassed. This is a highly dangerous condition that caused the furnace to repeatedly turn on, overheat, shutdown, turn on, overheat, shutdown,......... for some part of the two weeks that we just happened to be away on vacation. YOU CANNOT RELY ON THIS CONTROLLER if you are not home all the time to verify its operation. Subsequent bench testing of the controller revealed that in simulated power-off-on reboots, that the controller would not properly reboot about one in ten attempts. It obviously came from the factory like this. And if you don't have a power down situation, you may be perfectly OK for years. BUT can you take that chance? What can you do to protect yourself. The unit does not check to see if thermostats, zone damper motors, or the equipment (furnace/AC) are connected. It does look to see if a DATS (temp sensor) is connected. So, I suggest you disconnect the 4 or so wires connected to the equipment, and then remove power to the zone controller. Turn on the power and watch the display. It should cycle on and stabilize. If the display shows gibberish, you have a problem. If it shows any error message, you have a problem. Do this scenario ten times. Simulate typical power outages by waiting and not waiting between turn-offs. If you care to, let me know, you experiences.Read full review
