This is my first crossbow. The picture is incorrect on the scope. It comes with a red-dot scope; not the variable scope shown in the picture. I was a little dissappointed. The bow itself is outstanding. It took me two days at the range to get zeroed in. I am accurate to fifty yards. I recommend purchasing a string cocker at Amazon. The price is cheaper. The package is heavy. I have stalked many miles carrying the bow. I am still looking for my first kill. It is well constructed and has plenty of speed. Should be a way to release the bow string without having to shoot the bolt.
I've used several recurve crossbows, but after reading all the reviews, talking to actual owners, and researching the pros and cons - I finally decided to go with the Barnett Quad 400. My biggest worry was finding myself out hunting and suddenly having a broken string or string/cable set. Since it is not practical to carry around a $400-600 sawhorse-sized bow press I had to find a better alternative. Fortunately, I found the Bowmaster Portable Bow Press. The Quad 400 was leasy to assemble and is a piece of art to behold. Definitely solid, yet lightweight, this nicely balanced crossbow has all the punch and accuracy a hunter could want. Although not mentioned, included was a spare bolt clip and cable slide. Also unmentioned is the Weaver/pickatinee rail that holds the quiver in place. This underbelly rail can also be used for bipods, lights, etc. Although mine came with a three dot reticle, I opted to put on a 3rd party scope with features that I prefer. Using the quick detach mounts, my new scope fit nicely on the Quad's scope mount. The fast bolt speed (345 fps) punches nice tight groups at 30 yards. The smooth 4lb trigger draw is awesome. It has nowhere near the kick that I was expecting and less vibration than I've ever known in a crossbow. The ergonomic design of the stock gives you a comfortable pistol grip and the forearm keeps your fingers clear of the string path. The Safety button is metal, ambidextrous and nice to use. I just had to try out the anti-dry fire feature and I am very happy to say that it actually works. No more worrying about an early firing while I am still trying to load a bolt. All the way around I am very impressed with the Barnett Quad 400 and I look forward to using this fine American made crossbow for many years to come.Read full review
Although I have not had the opportunity to hunt with this crossbow, impressed would be the single word I would use. Have played in the backyard with it and this thing is fast, powerful and packs a punch. Would highly recommend the cocking rope as an accessory, with 150lb draw it is a struggle for me without it. Have also had the opportunity to use Barnett customer service as well. I managed to break the bolt guide, totally my fault. Emailed CS looking to purchase a new piece and they replaced it for free.
I had one of these whene they first came out. Very accurate and fast but has some noise.Guess it doesn't make much of a difference though because it usually reaches the target before it can react! The only issue I've had is the bolt retainer is flimsy and broke off in the field and cost me a nice 8 point buck. It was easy enough to order one and fix the problem from Barnett but it shouldn't have broken. Something like that should have some flexability to it.
This crossbow has a perfect price to quality ratio. I tested it with a 350 grain crossbolt and the speed was around 350 fps, not like many others that advertise to be fast and reach only 300 fps. To get that speed and quality you have to spend much more money if you buy a crossbow from Ten Point or Horton. A recommandation and a clear buy.
