My daughter still managed to break it, but she's a bull in a china shop, so I don't blame the pot. I bought another one to replace it. That's how much we like it. I don't recommend it for electric coil stovetop, but they say it will work with the flimsy adapter thingy, which is probably very easy to lose. I have a glass cooktop, and this works very nicely. If you are using gas, keep the flame low as the plastic handle on this pot is very close to the burner. The whistle is a little weird, but it works. The only downside to me, is that you have to remove the lid to pour. Small price to pay, and it actually is useful for crimping tea bag strings, so good trade. :-)

I really like the look of this kettle BUT cannot believe the whistle top/lid melted!! I went to lift the lid off and burned my finger and thumb as the hook part of the lid had partially melt due to the heat. Call me crazy but when making a product that is exposed to high heat you want to have parts that are heat proof! And I did not leave this kettle boiling on the stove top for an extended time period. BUT, even if I did.....my expectation would be that the plastic lid wouldn't melt. The handle is made out of the same material. Dangerous..

I was initially disappointed in this pot because you are not supposed to use high temp with it on an electric range. This means water takes more time to boil. But I use medium-high heat (8 out of 10) with the little metal wire thing under the pot and it takes about 17 minutes to boil a full 12 cups of water. I love glass for its lack of toxicity. Very pretty when it boils, too! This is the largest glass water boiling kettle I've found at 12 cups. The handle gets rather warm after heating for 17 minutes, but it's still okay to pick up with my bare hand.

I really like this kettle. The clear glass allows you to see the water getting hot as you may not need it to be at a full boil. And once the water has reached temperature, the whistle is loud. Easy to fill as the plastic/whistling top pops off without struggle and the cup capacity markers are easy to see/ read. And using a dish brush makes for an easy job of cleaning it. I've had quite a few whistling kettles that ran the gamut between inexpensive to outlandish in price, and I always had issues with rusting-particularly in the spout area-which can affect the taste and safety of the water. But with this Medelco, the only metal is on the outside, so no problems with rust getting into the water you're drinking. This is the perfect whistling kettle for me and a great value too.

I use this to make Iced tea. There is no having to pour boiling hot water into another vessel (risking burning yourself) to make the tea. I simply put 2 family-size teabags straight into the boiling water and do not disturb them for 30 minutes. Take them out 1 at a time and briefly let each one drain against side of top. DO NOT SQUEEZE OR MASH THEM! You mix and equal amount of ice cold water to it when it cools of. Sweeten each glass to taste and it will be the best iced tea you ever had. LOVE this kettle!
