The Pioneer Elite series of state of the art receivers, while slightly dated, are among the best ever designed. If you are looking for high power and features in a receiver that is 8 years old, you have come to the right place. If you are a newbie looking for wireless connectivity (other than the remote), this is not for you. I am an old school hifi fanatic that doesn't need or expect many of the newer features, primarily bluetooth, that have been developed in the last 5 years. This has an iPhone connection, just about all the home theater features you could look for, 7 channels at 140 watts per channel(!), 1080p HDMI input and output. It lacks 4K output, but how many 4K DVD's can you buy today? Let alone how many stations broadcast 4K? My suggestion? Do a Google search on Pioneer Elite VSX94-TXH (don't worry about caps) and read the reviews. It was Pioneer's flagship in 2008. As such, it is worth studying if you are planning to spend upwards of $1000 or more on today's receivers, when you can find one of these for half that or less if you search and wait. I bought a VSX-74 TXVi many years ago for quite a bit more money, and am still pleased with it, then found a couple of these for about $300 with $40 shipping (these weigh close to 40 lbs.!). Make sure you get the FM antenna and the MC/ACC microphone for setup. You probably will have to find these at Pioneer or aftermarket. The remotes that all the reviewers complain about, but I don't have a problem with, Pioneer AXD7504, are occasionally available on eBay, brand new for about $50 from China. Keep hunting!Read full review

In 2007 when this thing was manufactured, it retailed for $1800. It has more features and functions than I'll ever use. It sounds fantastic hooked up my Polk monitor 60s! It's hefty, almost 40 lbs- huge transformer, big heatsink- 140 watts per channel×7 into 8 ohms. It's a powerhouse and I love it!

This top of the line Pioneer receiver is built like a tank, quite complex with many features to optimize every audio/DVD component possible. It's very advanced for the year it came out. Being an experienced audiophile lover...there's many things to accurately learn, maximizing the use of this stellar receiver. Ample RMS watts...to power all speakers. The sound quality is stellar. All though the basic use of this receiver is not hard to learn how to use, It's most likely not a receiver for someone that doesn't want to learn all the technical features and incredible advantages this unit offers. They don't make quality A/V receivers like this any longer. Unless one wants to invest some serious money with the elite top of the line models from reputable audio manufacturers these days. Will enjoy using this A/V receiver...for years to come.Read full review

This Pioneer Elite VSX 94TXH 7.1 is an awesome receiver and I must say I am completely blown away by the quality and clarity of sound. This is my first elite receiver and I am completely pleased with it. First of all, the package came in a little bit damaged with cushioning materials all broken up. At a glance I was discouraged with the shipping condition, but then I opened the plastic rapping and here comes out this ‘monster’, so beautiful, so powerfully black. To avoid damage to the receiver and your cabinet, get additional help if you are placing in a tight space; it is heavy. Setup with instruction was a breeze. I was not very pleased with the quality of music; it came out flat, though more powerful than my previous AV, but I did not buy it for the music. I read the threads and blog about similar products like Onkyo, Denon etc., but then I set aside everything, since the ‘monster’ is here. The ultimate test was a Bluray movie. With my MCAA calibration done I was ready to view “The Day After Tomorrow” (in 58” Samsung plasma). My speaker systems setup is as follows; 2 large front JBL (tower), Northridge series, Klipsch center channel speaker, RC-62, 2 book-shelve Infinity surround, 2 JBL surround back speakers and a 12"-200 watts Optimus subwoofer. (This sub is over 7 years old, I might add; earlier before this setup, I purchased a JBL L8400P 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer with 600 watt Digital Amplifier as a replacement and promptly returned it after a disappointing performance). My room size is 17X17X18’ high ceiling. What happened next was nothing short of spectacular, intriguing, mind-blowing or any other adjectives to qualify my positive experience. Until the movie ended I thought I was in it ‘Live’ (docking and dogging imaginary debris, hay, water, flying automobiles, flinching and heart pounding with every sound of impending anticipation of destruction, etc. It felt so real). Due to the closeness of the speakers and TV set, you will hear and feel every intended surround sound better than in a movie theater. At the end of the movie, I was dusting off the debris off my back (laughs). And my 15 year old said, "Dad! You don’t need a new subwoofer" and I nodded in agreement after the pounding performance of this old Radio Shack sub-woofer. Before you throw that speaker or sub-woofer away for more expensive ones, think again. Did I say this “monster” receiver could also scale your broadcast HD TV to 1080P? You must use the component cables to achieve this, since the HDMI cannot do that on a broadcast TV. Check with Tech Support for questions you may be confused about. They will answer your question and would not care who and where you bought it. There is no authorized online retailer for this particular model, I was told. FYI. I bought a 31 band graphic equalizer that I used for CD output and with a few tweaks I got my music to sound the way I wanted it. I did not bother with USB downloadable music, satellite radio and the rest, (saved for later, I guess!). Perhaps there is away to work the Pioneer Elite manual EQ. I was not going to waste time doing that. I hope you have as much excitement as I did with purchase of this equipment. Your surround speaker system makes a difference in what you can expect to hear. Mine worked out well for me. Cons. The remote control looks cheap and LCD does not light in the dark. This is a draw back for this high-end unit. For the price under $1,100.00, plus shipping, I am happy.Read full review
