While I have not yet tried the recording feature, this Sony VCR is beautiful. It arrived well-packaged without damage, several days sooner than expected; and it plays my 30- year-old VHS tapes beautifully. Good, sharp picture! I’m glad I purchased this product.

I received the product and although I usually love Sony VCR's above all others, this one wasn't working when I received it. We programmed it to record a program and it would not come on to record . The guy helping me with it even pushed the record button and all it would do in that case was record for 2 seconds then shut off. Very disappointed.

The Sony SLV-N900 HiFi VCR is a good product. I was disappointed in the workmanship of the unit. For instance the panel that houses the RCA jacks on the rear of the unit are flimsy. The over all weight of the product was feather light, unlike Sony's past models. The cable box feature never worked as described. My Direct TV box at the time, was manufactured by Sony and the VCR would not change the channels on the box. I realize that VCR's have become a thing of the past, but there is no reason to skimp on the quality of parts. Prior to this unit, I owned a Sony SLV-795HF VCR and it lasted ten plus years and it was a very durable unit. Video quality, sharp and vibrant colors. Audio quality is good. Being that it just turned 2019, I plan on selling my SLV900 in the near future.

I like the flexibility in programing for 8 different programs. I still have not gone through the manual to understand all the built in convenient features, as programing from TV guide. I like the display that shows while you are watching a recording which shows how long the tape has been playing or how long your recording was. I bought this item as I needed VHS VCR only, not a system with DVD player and VCR.
This has been the easiest VCR to set up so far. The auto preset feature sets the clock, day, and date as well as adds the local channels to the channel scroll. Selectivity is excellent on both VHF and UHF. Inputs and outputs are available both as F-59 coax connectors as well as discrete audio/video jacks. There are also audio/video jacks on the front panel. The menu for modifying the channel presets and setting the record timer requires entering several levels, so don't lose the manual!
