John and William Ridgway blue and white transferware in the India Temple pattern, ca. 1814-1830. This sale is for twoscalloped andgadrooned edged 10 1/4" dinner plates inmedium blue. The scene is a temple built on the edge of a promontory on which stands a three story building of pagoda-style. The ships in the estuary fly flags and pennants and the figures in the foreground suggest Far Eastern rather than Indian people. The picture is framed in a band of lines and scrolls. Between this and the gadrooned edge of the dish is a border with alternating bands of flowers and geometrical and scroll motifs.
