Glue for Bottle Caps to PVC in 11 bottle system ...
 

In Canada, it seems our 2L bottles have slightly larger caps than the US. The 11 bottle system calls for 1" plugs at the top of each of the Tee's, but then our bottle caps won't fit. Also, the caps are very soft and plyable ... hard to make the glue stick.

So, now I have a too small cap going into a too big hole.

I tried industrial glue (in a caulking gun tube) but it won't bind to the PVC.

I'm thinking either silicon caulking or "soft plastic" cement. I fear the soft plastic cement won't bridge the gap however.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

EDIT: I re-read all the notes and in the photos on this site I saw this note:

"1 1/8 inside thinwall" ... Hmm, perhaps I'm using the wrong PVC pipe for the bottle cap holders? I was using the same stuff as the rest of the system.

here is another idea try finding a bottle that fits over the size pipe you are using snugly, gallon water bottles from store fit perfect on 1"pvc ,use plumbers pvc tape to make tight seal. put short 1 3/4 long piece in "t" push bottle down for seal . going to post a pic of my 11 plant custom unit

oh and thin wall is hard to find in some areas so get it from ron,it will cost you less than driving all over to find it .this is why i found a better way for me, plus i like the gallon jugs for larger plants like tomatoes

Thanks for the reply Andy. I got some thinwall and the caps are still too big.

I'm going to try some silicon glue first and if that fails I'll try a larger bottle (good suggestion).

I think the caps are polypropylene which is why they are so hard to bind to.

I'll test some PVC cement on the caps to see if the primer eats it away.

Found a better solution ... no caps.

When I use the thin wall, the rim on the bottle sits flush on the pipe end. I can use CA glue to bind them with plumbers tape on the threads. Perfect seal.
