It depends on how much moisture your medium holds between watering. If you use rockwool then you wouldn't water as much as with a medium like
grow rocks. I flood my gardens about three times an hour. It only takes 5 minutes to flood my gardens then 20 minutes later I flood again and so on. You don't need to water at night because without photosynthesis the plants can't utilize the
nutrients in the water.
