I run my pumps 24 hours because it's less hassle and my plants don't seem to mind the extra watering when it's dark.
Yes that is an excellent way to add oxygen to your reservoir and at the same time cut down on the flow to your garden. I used to poke holes in the hose just above the
pump to relieve the flow to the garden. Ron
