I grow everything outside in natural sunlight myself. Although That doesn't work well for lettuce here from mid-late April on, they just tend to bolt. So I'm considering growing some inside this summer. There is no way I can justify spending hundreds of dollars for led, or MH and cooling fans. If I can find enough space to place the setup (probably the laundry room/pantry), I might be able to setup a couple of 8 plant water culture setups that I have done outside. For Lighting I'm looking at using a couple two tube T8 fixtures (possibly three), and making my own reflectors. I figure I could put together the T8 lighting for around $60. I'll definitely want a Kill-a-watt meter to be able to tell exactly how much it costs to grow the lettuce, also how much each T8 fixture cost me to run etc..
