Those are some fine looking peppers! You're right, they do look like Red Savinas. I have some growing now with peppers all over them. Yours look just like mine.

You never know when you get someone else's seeds. If the grower had some Bhut Jolokias and Red Savinas growing near each other, you may have gotten the results of some cross pollination.

If you in turn, plant the seeds from yours, you may have offspring that look like Jolokias.

I buy all my pepper seeds from the University of New Mexico. They are guaranteed to be pure bred and I've never had a moments doubt of what I was growing.

I use a Domed Germinator with a heat mat and have a 99% germination rate using rockwool cubes with the seeds just dropped into the hole in the cube.

I use a 150 watt hps over the dome.

I should have included that I recently received three packages of Bhut Jolokia seeds from the University of New Mexico's, Chili Pepper Institute.

I don't have a heat mat so it's been three weeks with no germination yet.

They will germinate much faster with the heat mat, but be patient, they'll come out. It takes a longggg time with less heat. As much as 60-70 days.

I got them to sprout in about 21-30 days with the mat.

One of my Bhut's have sprouted and has been put in the system. Also my first three peppers have started to get ripe.

40 days or so is a great response for Bhut seeds. Congrats!

When they first started to get ripe I thought maybe they were orange habanero. They went from green to orange. I have since found the below image of the ripening stages of orange habanero. Oranges ripen green > all yellow then turn orange.




Mine went from green > all orange > (just starting to blush red).


Can't wait to try my first one....
