Default vermiculite just flows through the holes

Could someone write down, not really a detailed description but cover the basics for a dip system. I was thinking, take a 10 gallon aquarium and put a screen about two inches off the bottom, have the plants sit on the screen. I have tried using a drip system before but i've got this reoccurring problem, when feed the plant with nutrients and water the vermiculite just flows through the holes, it causes a massive mess, clogging the water pump. So, sorry for the babble. I just want a complying medium. And, when you tell me what medium, could you also tell me how long to leave my UV light on and how often to feed?
Thanks,
James

Click here. Leave your light on at least 18 hours a day and read this about how often to water. Use perlite not vermiculite because it doesn't brake down.
