Cheap Medium for seed starting
I have been starting my seeds in my Aerogarden using the garden starter tray refill pack, but now they are out of stock.
I am growing the seeds hydroponically (they grow a lot quicker), then transferring to pots with soil, then into the ground. Does anyone have ideas of basic household items that could be used? I thought of cotton balls or paper towels, but they would fall apart when trying to transfer to pots. Thanks for any help. Rob |

I am not sure what/how the aerogarden supports the plugs, like little baskets or if the plugs just fit inside holes with the holes supporting the plugs. I also don't know exactly what size they are from the picture. But I would look at using 1 or 1 1/2 inch rockwool starter cubes. If they are not the exact size there easy to trim down. The rockwool cubes are square in shape but will easily fit into a round hole without any trimming, as long as there a little bigger than the hole
itself. You can usually find sheets of 100 for about $9 (half the cost of the aerogarden plugs). |
