Newb for Hydro Ron's 11 plant system
I have almost finished building this setup, but I had a few questions that I could not find. How is the plant placed in the soda bottles? Do you just put grow rocks or something straight in the bottle or do you need some kind of cup? And if you do first put it in the cup, how do you place it in the 2 liter bottle? Second I was wondering how much water you fill the 10 gallon reservoir. Thank you so much

you can drop some net pots in there to keep the grow media in place....

cups
I think the most common way is to put dixie cups into the bottles. The dixie cups are filled with grow rocks and have holes in them for the roots.

Do the cups then just sit in there? Shouldn't the cup sit in grow rocks to prevent the cup from moving up and down as the water fills?

I think as long as there are holes in the cup, the cup will not float up as water enters. The cup is filled with grow rocks, with the plant in the grow rocks.

There must be many ways to provide a root anchor. I am starting my seedlings in 1-1/2" rock wool cubes, and will move them in to a large block of rock wool then bury under clay pellets. In Ron's system, you could start seedlings in the small cubes and then transfer to a net basket (is that the right name) that are placed in the expanded clay. This makes transplanting the seedlings with minimum shock very easy. |
