A little over a year ago, we bought a large number of saddle trees, shipped in from Tennessee, from a shop that recently closed. A reader was kind enough to identify them for us as Steele trees, and sent us an old catalogue. These trees originally sold for over $129.00. We have sold a number of them, and they have been very well received. Through the winter, they were inaccessible, but we are now pleased to offer some again.
Steele is a prominent saddle tree manufacturer, and made saddle trees for most of the top selling saddle makers today. This tree is 19\" measured from the very front of the pomel to the top of the cantle. This is one of very few trees we received with the flex panels attached. The panels are exactly the same on each side, but one side has been fitted with a protective cloth cover that closes around the tree with a velcro closure.. Additionally, the slots for the stirrup leathers have 2 different positions, giving the maker the possibility of adjusting to more correctly fit the individual horse.
Since I am at loss as to how to measure these saddles, I can only give you the full length measure and an approximation of the flex tree width. I would say the tree is a medium, and will flex to a position slightly wider. The flex panels, if purchased separately, are more costly than what we have priced the tree at.
Great project for the ambitious cowboy, or certainly an interesting display.
