GUITAR 2 Custom FENDER archtops Vintage prototype & rare D\'Aquisto built guitar:
$49999.00

This sale is for BOTH guitars shown. I will consider any buy it now offers for either or both (unless of course it has received offers).

Both of these guitars were built to be played. That being said, the 1994 Custom Shop is of museum quality. The 1984 has been my every day guitar. It actually sounds best of the two in my opinion due to the added years of playing.
Please ask, as I do have a quality studio music video of the Custom Shop D \'Aquisto being played.

These are two of the rarest Fender guitars you will ever see. The 1984 was a prototype built for the new owners of Fender Guitars for the Master series built in Japan. These included the 2 p.u. D ‘Aquisto standard, the 1 p.u. D ‘Aquisto elite, and the top of the line, all hand built, carved top D ‘Aquisto Ultra. The production of the Ultra was very limited due to the very high cost at the time. I acquired this from an old guitar teacher back in the 80’s (through Dan Smith, who was V.P. and one of the new owners of Fender Guitars). Serial # 4 0102 stands for 1984 2nd built (first prototype was #4 0101, third was #4 0103 and sold on last year).

Ten years later

from recent sale listing:

For one of the first guitar lines by the Fender Custom Shop, Fender commissioned the legendary James D\'Aquisto to design a limited production archtop guitar. D\'Aquisto had been the apprentice to John D\'Angelo, and both men are considered two of the finest archtop guitar luthiers in the world. D\'Aquisto personally oversaw the creation of the 1994 Fenders that were created in the Custom shop. In fact, the first two or three of these guitars, according to the manager of the shop at the time, were essentially hand built by D\'Aquisto himself as he demonstrated his building technique. As production continued, the other builders at Fender\'s shop took over the construction of the guitars more and more. James D\'Aquisto passed away just a few months after the creation of this guitar, making it one of the last guitars ever built by James D\'Aquisto. Custom Shop D \'Aquisto Ultra #002

The Fender D\'Aquisto Ultra #001 is currently in the North American Musical Instrument Museum in South Dakota.

Please ask questions early.
