A bonus of the Metrolux II, they include an integrated shutter tester, so that the user can determine actual shutter speeds of their lenses & cameras. The entire kit is in really nice condition; it\'s a clean model with some light discolorations from use & age. The 6 foot long Probe wire has some bends from a stress relief from a prior installation. Comes with Xeroxed copy of instructions. This is as good as it gets for darkroom timers. 115 VAC ~ 50/60Hz. Sold as-is, as found with no returns or partial refunds, but guaranteed to be as shown & described. Nice hard to find kit for the serious darkroom printer as these are no longer being manufactured.
Taken in part from the web: Compensating timers are excellent for any enlarger head; they are essential for cold light enlarger heads. They provide closed-loop response for consistent exposures from print to print. For example, cold-light heads are notorious for their inconsistent light intensity. By internally placing one of the two included sensors in the path of the light, the sensor feeds the varying intensity of the light source back to the Metrolux timer. This enables the Metrolux II timer on-going, to \"slow down\" or \"speed up\" time to maintain consistent exposures.
The name Metrolux translates literally as \'metered light\'. Because it is a light-based \"timer\", Metrolux measures light output (Lux) as you print. As you know, all conventional darkroom timers use old fashioned clock seconds to control exposure. But what happens when the air conditioner turns on and the line voltage to your printing lamp drops, your prints suffer. Since MetroLux is counting Light units (Lux) the scientist next door can brown out the entire city, and your print will STILL come out just as you planned. MetroLux antiquates timers, metronomes, and stabilizer by giving you full microcomputer control without all the confusing buttons, entry key pads and required computer degree. Metrolux is a particular godsend tor printers with cold-light enlargers. As they know, the fluctuations of a fluorescent-based lamp sources can be extreme from exposure to exposure. A Cold-Light, warm from constant use can print up to 1000% heavier than a cold light just turned on Metrolux guarantees that your exposure variation never exceeds 1/2 percent. Before you can use MetroLux as a lamp controller, you will need to install a photo detector \'probe\' into your printing lamp (The probe comes packed in a separate plastic bag and has a plug on one end and the probe on the other). This allows MetroLux to monitor your lamp’s output and thereby control it.
