THE CAIRN STUDIO CONCEPT:
The Cairn studio has perfected a reproduction process to bring you individual artworks in very limited editions of superb quality. The Cairn method of reproduction consists of a multi-step, labor-intensive casting and finishing process. The material ,consists of crushed pecan shell flour, clear-based resins and wood chips, is hand cast in individual molds, each so faithful to the original artwork in detail and design that after as few as 20 castings, the mold is rendered useless. Before a new mold can be made, the artist may have to re-sculpt the original artwork to recapture detail lost in the initial casting. Hence, second and third editions can vary from the first edition counterparts. Therefore, each edition is truly limited in number because neither the original artwork nor the molds can withstand mass production. Unlike collectibles mass-produced in Taiwan or Japan.
