This old violin is all original in every way, beautiful patina. The violin has had no repairs that I can see. It is said to be made around the mid to later part of the 19th century. I had the violin looked at by two different luthiers and the conclusion was that it was most likely German made. There is no label in the Violin but some old writing that is long faded away and not readable...very faint.This is a 4/4 or full size violin. The lenth of back measures 361mm.
The sound post that was in the violin could possibly be the original, so I was told. The bridge has a stamp on it (can\'t make out what it says) and also very old...original?
The varnish is of a yellow-gold color and has its normal nicks and scratches for a violin of this age, but there is no damage or open cracks anywhere. The pegs work very good and you may also want to get a new setup. I haven\'t played the violin for a few years and used an old bridge and strings I had sitting around but it plays wonderful as is. The violin has a beautiful tone to it and will only improve with age.
