1.5 Civil War CANISTER Display BATTLE & SIEGE OF VICKSBURG MISS Cannon Ball Shot:

The sale is a single cannon canister shot. This dug relic is 1.5inches in diameter.

Used much like a giant shotgun blast, packed in a long tin can.

The canister shot has been cleaned & coated.

Base made from salvaged stained Mississippi RedOak with brass tag.

Idug this ballin the Vicksburg area many years ago. I do not buy from other sellers and sell as Vicksburg artifacts. I was born& raised in Vicksburg. I use to walk orride my bicycle to go relic hunting in the 70s. This artifact comes from my collection of Vicksburg Civil War relics. I only have artifactsfrom Vicksburg and the surrounding areas.

These were shot from the cannon byboth Union & Confederate artillery during the Siege and Battles of Vicksburg, and the surrounding areas. The Siege ended on the 4th of July 1863. Thisbeing the reason Vicksburg never celebrated the 4th of July for over a hundred years.

Some cannon balls and shotwere made in Vicksburg during the Civil War. Made by the Vicksburg Foundry of A.B. Reading located where the Vicksburg Convention Center is today. The A.B. Reading foundry also made some cannon tubes.

The last image is a skull showing where it was hit by a canister round, from the Charleston museum.
