1771North Carolina 10 Shillings Note, December issue. PCGS GRADED VF30, which is an accurateassessment. The holder states “repairedcenter split, small edge tears” which is accurate in the first part, the edgetears being so minute as to not be noticeable.Nice color, the black ink slightly faded but everything visible, andwith the sailing ship vignette appearing to have the shading on itstrengthened, which the Newman book mentions as having been done late in theprinting (only 10,000 of this note were printed). The signatures of FOUR people (unusual for asmall denomination) are all visible – these being Richard Caswell, LewisDeRosset, John Harvey and John Rutherfurd.Printed on just one side, the rear of the note showing the center split,which was very nicely repaired and not that distracting. With the added bonus of third-partyauthentication and grading, this example is a most pleasing note from a scarcestate, and an early, pre-Declaration of Independence issue.
