This is a gorgeous color! A beautiful, genuine antique hat from the Victorian Era, I believe it dates to circa 1880s to 1890s, could possibly be 1900 turn of the century. Stunning deep vibrant purple, wonderful French silk millinery velvet is expertly ruched and gathered to create 3 tiers of lovely puckers and waves of velvet. The workmanship on this is wonderful, a real milliner\'s work of art. The hat has a sort of stylized tri corn or tri corner shape, with a wired edge and a point in front and back, and a soft point on the side. Trimmed with a fancy, large gold washed brass millinery sash buckle with pretty roses all over! The brim is wired to keep the shape. The chapeau has 2 large and fluffy double ostrich plumes in shades of purples, to create a fabulous effect. Lined in black silk. The hat is meant to be worn tilted forward and slightly to the side, and perched atop the piled up hair of the Victorian times.

When placed atop the hair of a real woman, the hat looks much nicer than it does on my slippery mannequin head. Inside circumference is over 24\", and the hat has an oval shape to the head size.

The hat measures 12 1/2\" across by 10\" across. The one plume wanted to hang down the side, but I placed it atop the hat. You decide which way looks best! The buckle is beautiful, probably French but I could not remove it to find any markings. The hat reminds me of a lady\'s Victorian riding hat, with the stylized tri corner shape.
