1890 London Stereoscopic Co. Mahogany Plate Camera & Darkroom Set w/Orig. Box :
$2600.00

I\'ve got another great line-up of early invention and technology this week, so make sure to check out my other sales after you look at this one. Even if you\'re just a casual collector, I suspect there will be something of interest to you.Here\'s a very fine camera and darkroom outfit sold by the London Stereoscopic Co. ca. 1890. It\'s an extraordinary artifact of the early days of dry plate photography, and it all fits neatly inside the original, compartmentalized 19\" long locking mahogany carrying case, whose original LSC paper label (adhered to the underside of the lid) indicates that customers purchasing in excess of 5 pounds, 5 shillings worth of camera equipment were entitled to free photography lessons and the use of the company\'s darkroom facilities. Included is everything you see pictured. 3 x 4 Camera (excellent condition with perfect leather bellows and a pristine polished mahogany body), a Ross London No. 4 Symetrical lens (excellent condition; with clear optics), plate holders (excellent condition and working properly), celluloid developing trays (excellent condition, with no warping or damage), undamaged glass developer and fixer bottles, glass beaker, metal drying rack (folds up flat when not in use), full-size collapsible wood tripod (excellent condition, like the camera and plate holders and everything else), a mint-in-box set of 300 speed Marion\'s dry plates, a mint-in-box set of 144 sheets of Criterion Gaslight printing paper, a printing frame (with an undamaged glass pane), a rare original copy of Drane\'s Guide to Photography by E.J. Wall. Also included is a Beck-Steinheil telephoto lens in good condition with a working rack and pinion assembly but a missing outside element. Both the Ross lens and the Beck lens fit perfectly in the camera\'s mounting flange and can be still be easily installed and removed. There are other small items, as well, including sample LSC cartes des vistes, a fine brass and glass loupe magnifier for negative inspection, a set of approximately 100 sleeves and a box of green toner. The mahogany carrying case retains its original finish, as well as its original lock, original key and original tooled leather handle. Normal marks and dings on the case consistent with age and authenticity, but an exceptionally nice case nonetheless, and one that\'s accepted the brunt of wear and tear over the past 120 years in order to preserve the integrity of its contents.Short of a $20,000 Dubroni set, you will be hard-pressed to find a nicer complete plate camera outfit from the 1800\'s, and you will certainly not find one that\'s as compact and elegant as this one.Look at the pictures. They tell the story better than I can.
Shipping weight, properly packed, will be approximately 25 lb.
That\'s about it. Buyers with no prior response or with hidden response should contact me before placing a offer.
