ANTIQUE NAUTICAL OCTANT

(1) Antique late 18th-early 19th C. nautical octant. The box retains a portion of the original label for John Allen who operated in Baltimore, Maryland. Allen\'s company operated between the years 1810-1819. The label reads as follows: \"Jn. Allen / Mathmatical & Optical Instrument Maker / Thame Street 15 / Fells Point / Baltimore.\" The sextant itself bears the following on it\'s plate: Dring & Fage Makers / No 248 / Tooley St. Near London Bridge. We aren\'t sure if John Allen retailed this octant which was created by Dring or Fage or if Dring and Fage retailed this octant for John Allen. Both firms were making these instruments about the same time period. This particular octant is a little less than 16\" long.DESCRIPTION of CONDITIONUSED
