I am very pleased to offer an Al McLean overhauled instrument this week. This is a 1923 Buescher True Tone in an unusual \'reversed-burnished\' finish. Usually gold plated Bueschers are mostly satin gold plate, with some burnished areas inside the engraving. This horn is almost entirely burnished gold plate (of a relatively high karat gold), with some fine detailed satin within the engraving pattern.Engraving is quite extensive, and very detailed. The instrument has been immaculately rebuilt by the best technician/player around, Al McLean. Al has used all traditional materials - shellac, cork and wool felt, with the exception of firm, modern pads. Al has hand turned a set of custom resonators for this instrument, giving them a distressed finish. Resonator diameters are relatively small, exposing quite a bit of leather pad, which probably adds to this saxophones exceptional voice.I have had the pleasure of hearing the horn played, and it has an amazingly sweet and warm voice. I would say that this is absolutely perfect for classical chamber music, or for a character Jazz sound that emphasizes warmth and woodiness.Other brass and woodwind instruments available are:H.N. Please tune into a number of \'Jazz, Period.\' installments, which feature horns from my business in the hands of great artists. Al McLean and Kevin Dean take up a number of vintage saxophones and trumpets in my ongoing video exploration of the Montreal Jazz community.

Some horns you will see and hear are a 1944 Martin Handcraft Committee trumpet, three vintage Selmer Mark VI saxes (tenor, alto and soprano), gold plated Buescher Big B alto and Besson flugelhorn, a unique full body engraved Martin C Melody, and a gorgeous Conn Artist Special cornet dating to 1940
