@ 1930\'s Epiphone Mayfair Tenor Banjo, in need of a new head and set up.
purchased at an estate sale, all I have done is removed the dust and grime.
CHeck out the pics
I\'m primarily a mandolin and dobro player , but what I found on line is as Follows:
These were only made by Epiphone in NY between 1928 and 1935 so while they aren\'t as fancy as the Recording models, they are rare and desirable
!9 fret Walnut Neck {though it looks like a rosewood fingerboard to me}, Walnut laminate pot with brass tone ring,
Friction tuners with Ivoroid buttons,
Floral decal on resonator, MOTS Art Deco Headstock cover.
THE BAD: there\'s some chipping on the laminate of the resonator, needs a new head, some corrosion on some of the hooks, though they still function fine. A slight bit of lifting on the headstock MOTS around the 2nd string Tuner, but it seems to be in no danger of falling off, Some wear on the back of the head stock from rubbing knuckles while tuning. The case is a cheap late model Cardboard case.
THE GOOD: the neck is in perfect condition absolutely no wear divots on the fingerboard, the frets look perfect. The couple of hooks that have corrosion haven\'t effected the Pot or the tone ring. The Pot appears to be in perfect condition, no cracks, splits of delaminatons.
The info I found on-line for pricing has these selling for 595 euro and $840 to $1100 American with OHSC
Replacement head skin and brackets from Stew-Mac would run you about $45.00. A good deal for someone with basic banjo luthier skills
Will ship well packed in the cardboard case
I\'ll be on tour from 10/15 thru 10/22,
I\'ll try and answer any questions during that time, but won\'t have the instrument with me for more Pics.
