1951 Raleigh Lenton 3 speed. Reynolds 531 Tubing. Simplex derailleur.:
$800.00

This is special. It is a 1951 Raleigh Lenton Sports with Reynolds 531 tubing. It has the smallest oldest Reynolds 531 decal I have ever seen. The decal is placed near the top of the downtube. The bike was originally a 3 speed with a Sturmey Archer hub and shifter but has had a very cool period addition. There are two rear sprockets with a very old metal Simplex rear derailleur. This is operated by the metal Simplex shift lever on the downtube, so this is now a 6-speed bike.I have seen an ad from the era that showed this option. Everything appears correct or period correct but I am not an expert in this area so please be your own judge. Look carefully at the photos. I have a new pair of tires that come with the bike. The bike is in very good condition for its age. There are scratches and light rust but nothing that would prevent riding and enjoying this beautiful, rare vintage Raleigh. I have had the bike up on a repair stand and all gears shift and the brakes work smoothly and the wheels spin freely. The whole thing is topped off with a Brooks leather saddle. The frame is 23\" and the wheels are 26 X 1-1/4. The Sturmey Archer hub has its date, 51 7 (July 1951) and AW stamped on it.Please ask any questions. I will be happy to look for details that I have not thought to add here.Note- To keep the shipping price as reasonable as possible (shipping is not as cheap in Canada as we would like) I will be removing both wheels from the bike so I can fit it into a smaller box.You will need to be able to reinstall them and readjust the Sturmey Archer 3 speed.
