1966 Gibson Johnny Smith Archtop Guitar
Purchased onFebruary 4, 1988, from a renowned music store in Santa Monica, California whichhas since shut its doors. I have maintained it very carefully in a smoke and pet free home. Itsappearance is that of a new guitar. This is no doubt one the nicest original Gibson JohnnySmith guitars that exists today. At some point before I owned it, the tailpiece had broken. After years of ownership, I made the assumption that the music store had made the repair to thetailpiece. I didn\'t ask at the time, because I had never seen a more beautiful archtop guitar, and had to have it. It was and is simplystunning, almost flawless. It was quite obvious this Johnny Smith guitar had hardly been played andprobably spent most of its earlier life in the case prior to me buying it. InJuly, of 2008, I got the inclination to re-plate the tailpiece, since it had not been re-plated after its initial repair was done many years previously. I took it to Artistic SilverPlating in Signal Hill, California, the same place that Chip Foose used on his TV shows. They Re-plated the tailpiece in gold that matches the original finish. The plating is beautiful, but has lost some definition to its decorativeengraving. Because of the guitar\'s striking appearance, the tailpiece repair goes unnoticed. That is not to say you won’t recognize the repair,or the loss of definition to the decorative engraving. I’m sure if you look carefully atthe tailpiece, you will recognize what I am describing.I hope that the photos will further define the actualcondition of my beloved instrument. Upon request, additional photos will be provided, and serious questions answered.I\'ve been on for 19 years, please feel free to contact me before considering this purchase.
Thank you…
