The building of the L-5s was overseen by Jim Hutchins, aGibson Builder since 1963, until his recent passing. The process has remainedrelatively unchanged since the 1950s, including the hand-tuning of the top andback. Guitarists sing the praises of the comfortable vintage neck; the fast,easy action; and the rich beauty of the carved spruce top.
Other features on the Gibson guitar include a figured,carved maple back with solid maple rims; a pearl inlaid ebony fingerboard; andbeautiful multi white-black binding. With the creation of the L-5 in the 1920s,the modern archtop guitar was invented and it has set the standard for allcarved guitars that have followed. This listing includes the original Gibson case.
This 1980 Gibson Custom L-5 CES Electric Guitar is beingsold as used and come to you in close to excellent condition. There are no dings, marks or issues with thisinstrument, but please note that it has \"SECOND\" stamped on the backof the headstock and there is a very small hairline surface crack that can beseen in the photos. This crack doesn’tgo through the wood according to the recent appraisal anddoesn’t affect the sound. Itwas bought used at Craig’s Music in Weatherford, Texas in the early 90s andincludes the original hardshell case that came with it. It will include a recent professionalappraisal and setup with new flatwound strings.It plays and sounds great. Theoriginal owner preferred the speed knobs you see here, but the original blacktop hat knobs are included in the case. We are performing a full set up of theguitar so when it arrives it will be in top playing shape as this guitar begsto be played. The electronics work as they should and this guitar is very soundand without trouble. Tone that makes you grin!
