19th Century ANTIQUE SWISS CYLINDER MUSIC BOX

From an Estate Sale, this piece is circa mid-late 19th Century, this is a unique musical instrument that measures approximately 20\" long x 9\" wide x 5 1/2\" tall with double-hinged lid which opens and closes easily. Appears to be possibly mahogany or walnut wood construction and some artistic inlay consisting of a trumpet, flute and another instrument with floral arrangement. Also on the top is a triple-bordered striping around the outside. Everything appears to be original.

The top has a couple of blemishes, at the center on the right edge is a burn mark and in the center under the artistic inlay is a small hole in the wood that exposes the layer under the outer layer.

Upon opening the lid. there is another piece that lifts up to expose the actual cylinder and roll, this piece is just an outer wooden border and is missing the center graphics or glass which would have had the playlist and possibly more info on the manufacturer. I can find no identification of any manufacturer and had to do much research to pinpoint exactly where and when this music box came to be. Also missing is a small key that I assume locked it. The lock and such appears to be in fine working order but the key is gone.

On the left side of the 11-inch roll is a lever. When lifted up as shown in photos the box plays a song. It plays a variety of tunes, I think there are 8 and they are likely what one would call \"Airs\". The sound is similar to that of a classical guitar or mandolin.

On the right side are a pair of switches, each with two settings. The top switch when set in the 12:00 position reads CHANGE meaning change the song, When set to the 6:00 position it reads REPEAT meaning it will play the same song over. The bottom switch when set to the 12:00 position reads STOP and at the 6:00 position reads PLAY.

On the roll itself, the appearance is excellent and this music box plays GREAT and with great volume. Small teeth vibrate and touch as the roll rotates, creating the tune. Two of the teeth on the right side appear to have the tips missing, the rest all look excellent with sharp pointed tips. The silver staff (for lack of a better word) is removeable and sets on the teeth, adjusting its position can adjust the sound and the volume.

All the gears and parts work GREAT and box has an outstanding sound. if anything else is missing I cannot tell, the box has knicks and pings here and there in addition to the blemishes mentioned earlier.

I do see part numbers on some of the parts but manufacturer info is either hidden or missing.

This is a wonderful antique piece. The sound is beautiful and resonates throughout a room.

Weighs almost 20 pounds.
