Kevlar® is a para-aramidfiber which displays excellent dimensional stability over a wide range oftemperatures for prolonged periods. Even at temperatures of 320° F. Kevlar®shows essentially no strength loss. Kevlar ® fiber does not melt or supportcombustion but will start to decompose at about 800° F. Currently, Kevlar has manyapplications, ranging from bicycle tires and racing sails to body armor because of its high tensile strength-to-weight ratio;by this measure it is 5 times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis.
