Do not be fooled by cheap knock off lights with poor quality, you get what you pay for. Look closely at the specs and make sure they are using quality LED\'s and havecooling fans with aheat sink to assure proper cooling. Make sure they are using the proper light spectrum for all stages of growth. I understand the attraction of saving money but there are no LED grow lights on the market under $200 that are worth buying. Light coverage, PAR and correct light spectrum give you the most bang for the buck. Your lighting choice is one of the most important decisions you will make for your indoor garden, make sure you don\'t risk your crop on inferior lighting.

When choosing lighting for your indoor grow consider the coverage area of any light. You can keep an LED grow light closer to your plants than a metal halide or high pressure sodium light because they do not generate the heat like HID lighting. When you raise your lights further from the canopy the coverage area is increased but the light intensity falls. The inverse square law basically states that each time you double the distance the light intensity drops to 1/4 of the previous distance. In HID lighting you use lumens as your measure of light intensity and with LED lights you use PAR. Full sunlight on a cloudless clear day at high noon in the midwestern US is about 2000 umol/m2/s PAR. You want a light that simulates natural sunlight in spectrum and penetration. A quality LED grow light can replicate the sun without excessive heat. Quality LED lights include multiple light spectrums that can be used by your plants without adding unwanted heat. The saving in not only the wattage of lighting that can cover a given area but also the added expense of cooling your grow area makes the higher initial cost of LED lighting more attractive. Once you consider the multiple replacement of both HID bulbs and ballasts over the life expectancy of an LED grow light as well as electrical savings over the same periodthey become a much more cost effective lighting source. Performance
PAR stands for Photosynthetically Available Radiation. The PAR range extends from 400nm-700nm on any PAR measuring device, which is called a Quantum Light Meter. The PAR unit of measurement is called a micro mole, which expresses the photon flux density of light per square meter. The more micro moles you have per square meter, the higher your flux density is.
