This fine Regency Chess/Backgammon games box i think dates to around 1820/30 , the box is finely inlaid all over with different veneered woods and has a lovely effect and great colour as seen in the photos but best seen in the flesh so as to speak , there squares measure 1.5 x 1.5 inches and the edges have inlaid borders , the sides have a striped design and there is a working lock and key , inside the backgammon board has lovely inlaid designs of leaves and flowers around an oval panel , the box is lovely quality and in very good condition for its age , i think there may have been a little restoration here and there and some painting of the edges inside , there is a little bubbling of the squares in a couple of places but an unusual early example of a games box , the box measures 13.25 x 16 inches when open and 13.25 x 8 inches when closed
