Voigtlander Bergheil and Avus are legendary cameras loved by photographers of that time for their versatility and lightness. However, as dry glass photography turned antique, these wonderful 9x12 cameras were put onto shelves never to use.
With this carefully made modern back, Bergheil and Avus alike 9x12 folding cameras are back to life. This adapter will make it possible to use standard 4x5 film on Voigtlander Bergheil and its compatibles like Avus and many others, and turn these antique cameras into wonderful travel 4x5 cameras. (According to response I got from buyers, this adapter actually works with most 9x12 cameras, but not with Zeiss ones, like IDEAL, they got different backs. Any doubt, ask before you buy!).
So it means you can be a cool 4x5 large format photographer just by buying this back and an old 9x12 camera. Now those 9x12 cameras are very very cheap compare to their value, especially when this back is available. You can also change lenses in the way as illustrated in the photos)
The black and white photo was taken by a old brass lens without tripod, and the color foto was taken on 6x9 back with the Zeiss brass lens photoed. So this camera can be a very useful one by adding on this adapter.

\"I just tried your 4x5 adapter on my Zeiss Ikon Ideal 9x12 and it works! However to make a good seal you need to make a spacer on the adapter using black velour adhesive backed paper. This makes a nice light tight fit. Otherwise it is too loose. There is a small issue with using this adapter on the Zeiss Ikon Maximar as the little brass lock key on the top seems to get in the way. I would probably just replace the small metal latch on the Maximar with a different style or remove it entirely. If you have friends that have a Zeiss Ideal camera you might like to try it out with your adapter and a velour paper spacer. Bergheil, Recomer and Avus cameras work great with this adapter just as it is.\"
