Antique Fancy Compass Rose Mechanical Doorbell & Bronze Pull Pat 1872
This extraordinary antique mechanical doorbell was made and patented in 1872. The cast iron cover has a handsome compass rose design, with a different symbol in each of the sixteen panels surrounding the sunburst array. The details are very finely incised, right down to the feathers on the side panels. The wonderful cast bronze pull, made by Russell and Erwin around 1887, is a great example of Victorian artwork - employing swirls, geometrics, and flowers. This bell produces a singular loud \"gong\" and is in excellent working order. Both bell and pull are in excellent aesthetic condition as well. This set is ready to be installed on your door. The bell base measures 3 3/4\" across (4 3/4\" including screw holes); the pull is 2\" wide and 4 1/4\" tall. This bell will fit a door up to 2 1/2\" thickness.
