ANTIQUE GERMAN TRAVEL CHILD TRUNK DOLL CHEST JEWISH HOLOCAUST SURVIVER VINTAGE:
$250.00

………………… LOS ANGELES (SILVER LAKE) 90026 PICK UP ONLY - NO PACKAGING OR SHIPPING TO ANYWHERE ON THIS ITEM sale is for an old German made , Child Size Travel Trunk .
I purchased this piece from the grand daughter of the original owner , whose family was Jewish , and the grandmothers maiden name was Selinger .
I should have gotten more information from her , but she was only in Los Angeles to liquidate some family items that had accumulated in storage.
She said she had not been close to her grandmother for many years . The grand daughter was not a practicing Jew , had limited knowledge of the holocaust , and only knew a little passed down history of her grandmothers life in Germany and her journey thru WW ll and eventually finding her way to America .The grandmother\'s family was successful , living in Hamburg , when Hitler was coming into power . Her grandmother and her sister went to Paris in the late 1930s to attend a private school. This little trunk had been hers when she was a toddler , and was part of her luggage when she went off to Paris . Before the Germans took Paris , the 2 sisters , along with 2 cousins got out of France and ended up Denmark , where they were taken in by relatives who were some type farmers . They survived the war with these relatives on the farm .
The parents and 2 bothers , of these sisters , at some point were forced to leave Hamburg and ended up in the Krakow Ghetto sometime in the beginning of the 1940s . After the war ended in 1945 , the 2 sisters went back to Hamburg and onto Krakow looking for their family , and found no one . Then they went back to Denmark for a period of time , and after that immigrated to the U.S. , bringing her trunk along . The grandmother kept her old trunk her entire life , and in later years kept her doll collection in it . I didn\'t want the dolls when I bought the chest , but in hind site , I guess I should have kept them together .
Actually I have had this for some time , just because of the story behind it , but at the end of the day , it is not my story , and it is just a neat old , empty trunk .
It\'s time to pass it on to someone who can put it tol use . .The Trunk would be great for someone\'s doll collection or family keep sakes because of the small size . It measures approx. 22 inches long , 16 inches wide , and about 14 inches tall .
It is monogramed on the top \" M.H.S. \" . I did not write down what these initials stand for except the last name of Selinger \" . All I remember was the grandmothers first name was very uncommon and was not as simple as Mary or others .
The leather carry handle is in fine strong condition . All 3 latches on the front are in fine working condition , but there is no key for the center one . The inside has a fabric lining over a bit of padding . I think it has collected dust over the years , but there are no odors inside . Maybe a soapy sponge might spruce up the fabric . There was likely a lift out tray when it was new , but that has disappeared over the years .
A lot of age scuffs , scars and scrapes on the exterior , from her travels .This was likely an expensive piece in it\'s day , especially because it was designed for a child .
There is a metal emblem on the front that has the image of a stork carrying an infant in a basket , with the name under it \"Liprosta \" .
Each end of the trunk has the same stork figure on a metal triangle shaped emblem .
Also on each end of the trunk has another manufacture metal emblem , reading , \" Spezlalgeschft , For Koffer Taschen , Oskar Herrmann , Dresden A. Bismarekplatz \" . This is too big and too heavy to ship economically , so there is no shipping on it .
