Antique Pr WM Pedestal Candle Holder/Marble Painted: Actress LOUISE CURRIE Estate

Up for sale is a very handsome and unique pair of ceramic pottery candle holder pedestals from the estate of film actress LOUISE CURRIE (1913-2013). I\'ll go into more detail about Ms. Currie after describing the item but among her credits is she was the last surviving actor from the cast of CITIZEN KANE until her death in 2013 at the age of 100.

They are 8.25\" tall and beautifully decorated with an all hand painted marbled glaze. The have flat backs so they can set on a table flat against a wall. The top cups are 4\" in diameter. The pieces are 4\" X 3.25\" at their largest. They are marked with MW inside a triangle. I don\'t know who that maker is (does anyone know?), but I\'ve read that triangle marks were mostly used in Europe and are early to mid 20th century. The marbled glaze helps hide the flaws in these pieces. Both have repairs to the thinnest part of their necks as in the photos. One has a chip on the back edge that has been touched up blue with a crack that extends to the chip and down to the base. The front of the same holder has a pitted chip on the bottom right corner of the top blue panel with a crack line going down from that. So there are flaws but as you can see in the photos--these are really attractive pieces even as they are.

The second from last photo is the entire lot of items I purchased from the Louise Currie estate. It was a boxed lot and this shows the entire contents of the lot. The last photo is the sale tag. Of course it\'s very hard to prove an item belonged to a famous person but you\'ll see I have a very long and good reputation with . The sale tag is from the sale house A.N. ABELL sale COMPANY in southern California. I actually won 2 lots of Ms. Currie\'s items. The week after the first sale this second lot had been put up for sale again and I won it. The tag has been changed with handwriting to reflect this second sale. With this tag number Abell\'s record keeping will show this lot came from the Louise Currie estate.

LOUISE CURRIE was active in the film industry from 1940 to 1956. She did action adventure films like THE GREEN HORNET STRIKES AGAIN, THE MASKED MARVEL and THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL. She also appeared in several westerns such as BILLY THE KID OUTLAWED with Bob Steele, STARDUST ON THE SAGE with Gene Autry, the Hopalong Cassidy film FORTY THIEVES and several more. She\'s most noted for her two horror films that she starred in opposite Bela Lugosi, THE APE MAN and VOODOO MAN. She was in MILLION DOLLAR KID with the East End Kids; Disney\'s 1941 film THE RELUCTANT DRAGON; BEDTIME STORY with Frederic March & Loretta Young; CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY with Gene Kelly and Deanna Durbin; and LOVE LETTERS with Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotton. Early in Louise Currie\'s career she played a small role as a reporter at Xanadu in perhaps the greatest film ever made, Orson Welles\' CITIZEN KANE. Until her death in 2013 she was the last surviving actor from that classic 1941 film, living 72 years after it was released.

Ms. Currie married actor John Good (THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY) and they both retired from acting and opened a successful antique import and export business in Beverly Hills. Her home was filled with many high quality and beautiful pieces. This is a rare chance to own something from Louise Currie\'s home.

*Please note that my shipping time is up to 5 business days as I have multiple jobs and can only ship one day a week. If you happen to purchase after I return from the post office on shipping day it will be a full week wait until I am able to ship again. But most people will have a much shorter wait and some will have very fast shipping. No one will have to wait more than 5 business days. Thank you for understanding.
