Hereis a very nice F.H. Ayres, London, hickory shafted “Stayncrus” special putter,circa early 1900’s. The head has a dot patternon the face with a “Maxwell hosel”. The markings on the head very clean andvisible. Its condition is very good and it shows very little ware andmarks. The club was lightly cleaned and the head was carefully hand-polished toremove the oxidation and years of neglect.

One of the first companies in Britain to sellSchenectady putters with their own version, the Tru Putt, having a fibre face.Also known for the Vaile swan-neck aluminiium putter.They started off selling sporting goods as earlyas 1810 and added golf clubs to their line in the mid-1880s.At the Fifth International Golf Traders\'Exhibition at Hoylake in 1913 they were promotingDeltoidclubs, designed and invented by Mr FCheshire, which they claim \'are the only really scientifically constructed andbalance heads on the market\'.They were also showingTrusiteirons developed byRalphSmith.The head measures a lengthy 3.75 inches and the club face in 1.25 inch deep. Theclub is approximately 36 inches long.

The shaft appears to be the original. The grip appears to be a replacement ingood condition with normal wear and tear, see photos. The head is tight to thehosel when you twist it, and no cracks to the hosel. This club would make anexcellent players club or a great addition to anyone’s collection.
