For sale is this vintage Blue Comet Mandolin in great shape fully playable.These peculiar mandolins have an array of small sound holes covered by screens. It is remarkable that each screen is still there. They are usually missing or broken. Also the headstock logo is still in perfect condition.The back and sides are laminate from what I have read, but the arched top seems to be solid wood. The nut appears to be ebony. There were two similar type of mandolins produced with the Blue Comet name. The other type has a separate chamber around the standard \"a\" type body. This type without the extra weight is said to have a better sound.There are two blemishes on the top and a few small areas that aren\'t quite as shiny. I\'m not positive what kind of finish was used on this, but apart from the few small defects it looks quite good for its age. The tailpiece has some \"pitting\" or small spots of rust. All in all it is in impressive condition for an instrument 60+ years old. This mandolin sounds great to me. All notes/ all frets play correctly. I believe it is all original.
