Description

Excellent British RAF Ross 6E/383 B 5x40 Bino Prism Mk IV Military Night Use Binocular from WW2, 1941.

This RAF Ross 6E/383 B 5x40 Bino Prism Mk IV military night use binocular from WW2 is in in excellent condition considering its age. They are marked \'x5 Bino Prism MKIV\' and bear the serial # \'1040\' on the left hand eyepiece plate and \'6E/383\' and the letter \'B\' on the right hand plate.  There are also A military \'Crow\'s foot\' mark stamped in the rear prism plate.  The letter \'B\' indicates these are coated or \'bloomed\' optics, which improved light transmission.  Coated optics were uncommon during the war.  The brass & aluminium  body work is in very good shape.  Finished in black, there is only a very small amount of rubbed paint (brassing) on the raised areas consumate with light use.  The body covering is complete and is very good condition, without any damage. The one-piece rubber eyeshield is perfect, without any cracking or damage.  Overall I would describe this binocular as very well looked after.  This binocular was used primarily in nightfighters, but also in the daylight by coastal command crews for spotting aircraft, shipping and U-boats.  The low serial number indicates these were early war, produced in 1941.

The bloomed optics are clean, clear and both scratch and fungus free.  In addition they are well collimated.  Internally, this binocular is very clean.  There are no chips or prism damage present at all, following a thorough inspection.  This binocular produces excellent, bright images, which are clear, crisp and very well corrected as you would expect. The eyepieces in this binocular are fixed focus, as designed. They come complete with their original RAF blue (composite material) soft lined storage case and an original canvas/brass strap and fixings as shown.

Please see the detailed images provided to fully assess the condition.

Overall a very nice collectable and useable British WW2 military binocular in very good, fully working condition.
