Cafe Brulot - 1930\'s New Orleans - Loubat Carr China - El Diablo Cups & Saucers:
$34.95

Cafe Brulot – 1920 – 1930’s – Rare Set of Two (2) China Cups & Saucers for Devilishly Burned Coffee Stand! If you like this set, please don\'t hesitate to make an offer! Being offered for your consideration is a very rare 1930’s – 1940’s set of two (with an extra saucer) china cups and saucers with the Faust decoration for Cafe Brulot coffee.

All of these are original vintage pieces made by the Carr China Co. and distributed by the famous Loubat Queensware Co. in New Orleans, Louisiana. These are authentic pieces that were like the ones used long ago at famous restaurants, such as, Galatoire, Brennan’s, Arnaud’s Restaurants in New Orleans, Louisiana, along with other New Orleans hotels and restaurants that would have served authentic “Devilish Brewed Coffee” to their guests!

Historically, Cafe Brulot Diabolique (devilishly burned coffee) is a flaming mixture of strong black coffee, a very long orange peel, cognac, brandy, lemon, sugar, cloves, and cinnamon that make up one of the most famous drinks in all of New Orleans. Jules Alciatore originally created the drink at Antoines Restaurant, New Orleans, in the 1890s, and it has been a popular maintain hot beverage ever since. Not only was this drink served at Antoines, but it was served at other “high-end” restaurants in New Orleans. Though it is synonymous with restaurant service in the “Big Easy”, not all restaurants serve it, as it takes its own special serving pan / stand to make it, along with the special ingredients.

In preparation to serve this wonderful drink, first a waiter would prepare all the right ingredients for it, then carefully prepare it in the larger serving pan / stand. After it was done, the waiter would bring it to a flame, and it would be served in the vintage style cups; the same ones that are included here.

Mythologically, the Faust figure on both the cups and saucers are supposed to represent Mephistopheles, or that of El Diablo, to emphasis the fact that this coffee liqueur drink is Diabolique; “devilishly burned coffee”.

All pieces are the heavyweight type railroad, hotel, and steamship type china. They have no cracks and no chips with only very light usage.

A wonderful addition to your Home Furnishing / Home Decorating, Interior Design, Bourbon Street, Hotel China, Restaurant China, New Orleans, Mardi Gras, or French Quarter collection.
